National Forensics League Points

National Forensic League Points System:

Speech
Every time you compete in a speech round, you are given a rank anywhere from 1 to 5 (1 meaning the best speaker in that round and 5 the farthest away from the best speaker). These ranks are translated into the following number of points:

OO, OA, OPP, Expos, Extemp:

1st Place = 6 points
2nd Place = 5 Points
3rd Place = 4 Points
4th Place = 3 Points
5th Place = 2 Points

HI, DI, TI, OI, Duo:

1st Place = 5 points
2nd Place = 4 Points
3rd Place = 3 Points
4th Place = 2 Points
5th Place = 1 Points

Impromptu:

1st Place = 4 points
2nd Place = 3 Points
3rd Place = 2 Points
4th Place = 1 Points
5th Place = 1 Points

* Let me remind you that you get points based on your results from EACH round of a tournament, not the tournament as a whole.

Debate
Debate rounds work differently than speech rounds. Instead of being ranked from 1 to 5 like in speech rounds, you either win or lose in debate.

For every round you win, you earn yourself 6 points.
For every round you lose, you earn yourself 3 points.

(Congress)
Student Congress is very different from either speech or debate. In Congress, each tournament has its own set of rules regarding NFL points. The staff in charge of tournaments assign the points and tell the coaches how many points each student earned.
